Air Conditioner Basics

Air conditioning involves the removal of hot air inside buildings or vehicles by replacing it with cooler air. This action also reduces the interior humidity, which has the effect of making the area feel cooler.

An air conditioner is designed to pull hot air into its cabin through fan suction. This air is moved across various coils within the unit which are filled with refrigerant. The refrigerant makes the coils cold and this lowers the temperature of the air around them.

The colder air is then blown inside, which in turn slowly lowers the temperature of the inside air. When the air reaches the desired level, the air conditioner shuts itself off until needed again. More info: air conditioning
